[ANNULÉ] Deltaic and Deep-water Depositional Systems of Southeast France

We will be visiting and mapping the classic outcrops of Les Grès d'Annot. Each day will consist of field mapping, interpretation, and discussion from about 8am – 6pm followed by a group dinner. One of the main goals of this course is to learn how to observe and interpret the processes of sedimentation at the bed scale, and how to use these observations to infer sediment transport and deposition in a variety of marine depositional environments. This is the same method used by subsurface teams in the energy industry to determine the scale and quality of a petroleum reservoir, and these skills are transferrable to a number of different professions in sedimentary geology.
