| Description | Scientific communication is a vital yet often neglected part of research training, despite its key role in bridging science and society. One of the most effective ways to engage the public is through documentaries that are both aesthetic and educational, without requiring cinema-grade equipment or massive budgets. This course will train doctoral students to create their own audiovisual content, from storyboarding to field filming and video editing. The proposed course will be conducted in three phases: 1. UNIGE (1 day): Lecture on science communication by Massimo Caine (to be confirmed) and Giovan Peyrotty. Introduction to storyboarding and filming logistics. 2. Mount Salève (2 days): Students, divided into two groups, will film the topics prepared the previous day (e.g., geology of Mount Salève and tourism/economy). They will practice both in front of and behind the camera, using professional filming equipment. 3. UNIGE (1 day): Video editing workshop. Each group of students will work on their footage to produce a short explanatory video on their chosen topic, using professional editing software |
